Napa Pipe Gets Unanimous OK

CLARIFICATION: This story was updated at 5 p.m. on June 4, 2013 to clarify the nature of the documents approved by Napa County Supervisors.

After years of debate, public meetings and environmental review, Napa County Supervisors on Tuesday approved a key step to give a green light to the 154-acre mixed use Napa Pipe project.

The board voted 5-0 in favor of a conceptual sketch of ideas to be included in a memorandum of understanding with the city of Napa -- called an MOU  -- and an amendment to the city's General Plan that together would map out guidelines for the project.

Additional approvals are needed on the specific development plans and design, but Tuesday's OK was the major step needed before the project could move forward.

Under terms of the MOU and the amendment to the General Plan, up to 945 homes and a Costco store could be built on the site south of Kaiser Road and east of the Napa River.
