Sat. Nov. 2 from 5-7:00p.m. Opening for Davina Rubin & Maash Pascal at Jessel Gallery

Art Happenings this weekend!  Don't miss the opening at Jessel Gallery for (NVOS Artists) Davina Rubin and Maash Pascal.  Saturday November 2nd from 5-7:00 p.m. 1019 Atlas Peak Rd., Napa 94558

What NVOS artist Davina Rubin both loves and hates about abstract work is that when she begins a canvas, she has no idea where the paint will take her. “The paint tells me what it wants to do, and I just help it along. It’s sort of like being the mother of willful children, only mine are violets, yellows, magentas and teals. It’s a mysterious journey which requires a great deal of trust. It’s exhilarating, frustrating, and always, at the end - whenever that happens - rewarding.”

Davina’s art has been featured at Arte de Sayulita Gallery, Sayulita, Mexico; VOCA Gallery - Venice, California; The Jessel Miller Gallery - Napa, California.

Her work can currently be seen at the Grand Hand Gallery, in Napa, California, and will be featured in an upcoming show in November at the Jessel Gallery.

Since she begins with uncertainty, the idea of creating a “body of work” is difficult, because the work takes her in several different directions. So the paintings are really more like “body parts” – pure abstracts, works evocative of landscape or city scape, and sometimes objective pieces come through. However, there is a distinctive hallmark which runs through almost all of Davina’s work, and that is the layering of glazed color on color.

Color inspires her, texture inspires her, other artists inspire her. “Color is visual music, evoking emotional response, healing, or a sense of serenity or delight.” Recently she has ventured into new areas – small works on paper, and mixed media pieces of varied texture and design. As she develops, her art changes. “Everything I do is in the moment. So as the moment shifts, so will my art. I just keep saying ‘What if I did...’“

Visitors are welcome to her tiny studio by appointment only. You can always find her work on the web, at:  www.davinarubinart.weebly.com.  Don't forget to stop by Davina Rubin and Maash Pascals Opening at Jessel Gallery November 2, from 5-7:00 p.m.
