Berg opened his unconventional "business" on Oak Street in 1997 and has had the City of Napa scratching its head ever since. There has been some trouble getting the city to approve his ability to use this space for commercial use. The Nebraska native graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and started his career at the Ingersol-Rand Corporation as a development engineer. Long story short, after a long career of holdings in mining machinery, he went into retirement and became a hobbyist. Now he makes furniture reproductions and specializes in Queen Anne copies, which he donates to his children and to his favorite charities. He currently employs two woodworkers, one of whom, thanks to Berg, is now a trained master cabinetmaker.
