Open Mic Night: A Melting Pot of Art

It is a small yet meaningful hidden oasis for performing artists of all mediums and for all the people that stumble upon it for the first time. The poet, the dancer, the singer, the musician and even the comedian claim a space to share their passions. 

It is a transformative experience. We meet the strangers that become our most trusted friends and allies. We observe and redefine our existence within our little town. Bands or collaborative music projects are created. Tears may be shed, laughter almost guaranteed. The school-taught artists meet the self-taught street artists; the main stream meets the emerging and the underground. The elders meet the youth, and hopefully, a reciprocal appreciation is kindled or nurtured. It is a place where boundaries are transcended by a common language: art− a universal yet diverse human expression.

It is a simple place. The microphone and space in themselves do not create the special moment. Rather, it is the presence of artists and friends that creates an experience worth remembering and worth pursuing. It is the curiosity that one carries within and the excitement to share with the outside world that creates an Open Mic.

It's a special venue, but in reality, the venues for expression are carried amongst ourselves no matter where we go or who we are with.
