Surprise Obama Appearance "Thrilling," Napa DNC Delegate Says
More photos and impressions from the Democratic National Convention sent by Betty Malmgren of Napa, on triple duty as a DNC delegate, roving reporter for her own "Easy English Times" and Patch's eye on Charlotte.
If you want something done, ask a busy woman: That's probably why Democrats and Republicans alike elected some of Napa County's most industrious women to represent their parties at the national conventions.
Case in point: Betty Malmgren, who with Joanne Gifford is representing the Fifth District as DNC delegates this week in Charlotte, N.C.
An experienced journalist who has covered and attended multiple DNC conventions, including 2008 in Denver and 2000 in Los Angeles, Malmgren works full-time for Napa Valley College, volunteers for Heifer International and local causes, is a serious amateur photographer and publishes her own newspaper for English learners, Easy English Times.

At the convention this week, Malmgren is both a delegate and a reporter gathering information for Easy English.
Yet she still has found time to from Charlotte, and to check in by phone Thursday morning.

President Barack Obama's surprise appearance after former President Bill Clinton's speech Wednesday was "thrilling," Malmgren said.
"Everything just exploded," she said. "We were all on our feet."
Malmgren also said with pride that she was among the few delegates who stayed until the very last vote was counted.
In all, 609 California delegates signed and voted for Obama's nomination, she said.
Obama's acceptance speech Thursday was moved indoors due to a threat of thunderstorms, Malmgren added.
"It's going to be just packed," she said.
