Where's the Best St. Patrick's Day Celebration?

Contest closed at 9 a.m.! Watch for the winner at noon. This week's Readers' Choice Award goes to the best place in Napa to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

How will you be celebrating St. Patrick's Day this Saturday?

We can't all visit the old sod (Ireland) where Napa County health education specialist Cara Mae McGarry was traveling this week.

Fortunately, Napa offers a panorama of St. Patrick's Day festivities, from corned-beef dinners to concerts. Not all fall on the 17th, so you can spread your celebration out over two or three days if you like.

To help proclaim your favorite in this week's contest, there's more involved than just voting in the poll: The winner will be decided by a mixed tally of votes, positive comments and positive ratings on the business listings linked below.

If you own or manage one of the businesses in our contest, please be sure to "Claim" your listing! This allows you to customize the information that appears on our site, and to respond to users' reviews.

Here are the nominees for this week's Reader's Choice Award for best St. Patrick's Day celebration (as always, if we've missed something, please tell us in the comments and we'll add it ASAP):

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

We'll close the contest Friday at 9 a.m. and announce the winner at noon. Erin go bragh!

Don't forget about the Napa Guerilla Gay Bar's "Luck O'The Irish Mission to Twin Pine Casino" from 1 to 7 pm on St. Patrick's Day! We'll be heading to Middletown in an executive coach (leather seats and all!) to see if we can find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. On the coach we'll enjoy beverages, snacks and fun. Upon our return we'll hop into The Kitchen Door at Oxbow Public Market for a no-host supper. Cost is $30 for round-trip transport from the south parking lot at Oxbow. Like all Napa Guerilla Gay Bar events . . . EVERYONE is welcome! Just treat your fellow troops, other patrons, the venue, their management and staff with respect.

How do we vote?
Aileen M. Savage March 12, 2012 at 04:28 PM
Between the great live Irish music and the fantastic corned beef and cabbage... my vote goes to Suppertime! Their busiest and best day of the year!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 12, 2012 at 05:36 PM
Well, my face is red. The timer for the poll was set wrong, so nobody could vote this morning. I'm so sorry about that! It's open now and Rick, I have added your event and Maureen, I am adding your music to the article. Thanks, everyone.

Five Dot Ranch prepares the best corned beef and cabbage I have ever tasted! I have already called ahead and reserved my plate! I also heard with the purchase of your dinner you get $2 off draft beer at the Oxbow Wine and Cheese Merchant. Perfect!

Turtle Rock Bar at Lake Berryessa. Berryessa Lion's Club has an annual fundraiser, serving healthy portions of corned beef and cabbage, red potatoes, and carrots for $20. It's the best corned beef and cabbage I've ever had!!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 12, 2012 at 07:14 PM
I'll add it to the poll, Judy.
Faith Swickard March 12, 2012 at 07:29 PM
Five Dot Ranch prepares the best corned beef and cabbage! There really isnt any other way to spend St. Patrick's day other than with a hot plate of all natural California beef. I can't wait!

Suppertime by far! I have gone many of the years they have put on their event, makes me feel like I'm on vacation with all my old Irish relatives. Sing-songs are some of the best! look forward to it every year!!
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 12, 2012 at 07:53 PM
What county is your family from, Nicole? Mine (pre-Hufstader) hails from Roscommon, and I've only ever met one other family with roots there, which makes me wonder whether it's so great nobody ever leaves or so awful nobody wants to admit being from there. (How'd we meet the other family, here in the New World? One of theirs married one of ours and we figured it out at the reception.)

Alta Heights Elementary School is having their annual fundraiser on Saturday at Embassy Suites in Napa at 6pm. The "Shamrock Shindig" is sure to impress with tons of food by the valley's top eateries (Bottega, Napa Style, Hurley's) Buffet dinner by Compadres, auction items, and of course wine and a DJ dance party! Should be a fun night for sure! Tix are $45. www.gatorroyal.org
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 12, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Thanks, Sara! I did not see that in our calendar, so please encourage all the Alta Gators to take advantage of these free listings to publicize school events: napa.patch.com/events/new. Events appear in our newsletter and on our home page on the day they're happening—it's like a free ad. The school even has its own Places listing, which the principal can claim and customize with photos and announcements: http://napa.patch.com/listings/alta-heights-elementary-school. All free, all on Napa Patch. OK, gonna add the event to the poll now.

Brian Savage March 13, 2012 at 02:01 AM
If it's not the best corned beef or the best tunes (and it is!) then just come down and I will pour you the best Guinness you will have that day. Come to Suppertime first and then you can pretend with the rest of them!
Nicole Rose O'Hara March 13, 2012 at 03:40 PM
Brian what about the green beer? Oh and Louisa I think my family is from all over, but I hear most about County Cork, I still need to do some more family investigating though!
Jeremy Ballard March 13, 2012 at 04:47 PM

Suppertime is the place to be on St Patricks Day, good food, family and fun.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) March 14, 2012 at 09:59 PM
This really is turning into an Irish horse race and I have a feeling it will be down to the wire on Friday morning when we close the contest. Meanwhile, this event isn't part of the contest but I saw it on Facebook and wanted to pass it on for those of you who will be out and about in Napa on St. Pat's Day: Napa High Choir: We leave for Spain in just 11 days! You can help us get there by coming to our spring Parking Lot Sale this Saturday, March 17 from 9am-1pm. Napa High School's lot on Jefferson Street will be filled with smiling students and great buys ~ anyone need a sleigh? (Check the weather before you head out; in case of rain, the sale will be rescheduled to April 7th).
Loretta Swickard March 16, 2012 at 04:45 AM
Who can pass up the opportunity to eat all natural in house made corned beef from Five Dot Ranch. Even if you want to celebrate later in the evening it is still worth it to eat first at Five Dot Ranch at the Oxbow Market........ Corned Beef, braised cabbage, carrots and fingerling potatoes. See you there.
Rick Gudgel March 16, 2012 at 05:11 PM
Silo's is where it's at come one come all and have lots of fun
Kevin Belton March 15, 2013 at 07:49 PM
No mention of the biggest party in town????? Hands down, no question it is Downtown Joe's. Every year it grows and is SRO! This year the parking lot will be closed off and there will be a main stage outside, as well as inside! If you enjoy Celtic crooning, sing/alongside and Hibernian humor, join the Old Shenachie 5 pm outside, 7 pm inside!
