Napa Valley Cricket Club Bestows 'Players of the Year' Awards

Awards presented at ceremony at Clos du Val Winery.

Napa Valley Cricket Club gave out a series of "Player of the Year" awards from  the 2013 season at an awards ceremony hosted by the club’s main sponsor, Clos du Val Winery.

NVCC ended the season with eight wins and six losses. Competition was strong this year for the four statistical based awards.

In addition to those four awards, NVCC President Phil Bourke gave out an annual President's Award to a member who has contributed to the club over and above.

The winner of the 2013 award was Graham “Jonesy” Jones who was instrumental this year in providing hospitality to the many visiting teams that the NVCC hosted at their field at the Fairgrounds in Calistoga.

The winner of the “All Rounder” of the year award was Inderjeet Singh. New to the club in 2013, Singh excelled in all three disciplines to post the following figures:

Batting – 10 innings for 388 runs with an average of 38.8 runs and a high of 86 runs. In the bowling department Singh bowled 61.4 overs at a cost of 207 runs taking 18 wickets with an average of a wicket every 11.5 balls bowled. Singh’s best bowling performance of the season was 4 wickets for 25 runs. In the field Singh took 11 catches and was involved in 4 run-outs.

Given the incredible figures posted by Singh and the club's social ethos (no one can win more than one award) the individual awards for batting, bowling and fielding were won by New Zealander and new Club Captain Martin Mackenzie, Irishman Andrew Healy and Australian Pete Carson respectively.

Mackenzie batted 11 innings for 264 runs with an average of 24 runs and a high of 69 runs.

Healy bowled 10 overs at a cost of 76 runs taking 8 wickets with an average of a wicket every 9.5 balls bowled and a season best in one game of 3 for 31.

Carson excelled in the field with 11 catches and he was also involved in 4 run-outs.

“The club has really achieved a lot in just two years; on the field this year we won eight out of 14 games and hosted a touring team from Philadelphia and our first former international, Alvin Kallicharran of the West Indies, as well as sending a touring team to Los Angeles," said NVCC President Phil Bourke.

"It's great to be here tonight at our main sponsor Clos du Val, recognizing those who achieved great results on the field, but it's also important to acknowledge all of our playing and social members, our sponsors, those who come and barrack for us and the Napa Fairgrounds in Calistoga for providing us with a home field."

"We hope 2014 will bring even greater things for cricket in Napa Valley,”he added.
