Favorite Films By Decade: 1960s

Leave your personal favorites of the 1960s as a comment.

My picks for favorite films of the decade leading up to the Napa Valley Film Festival and the opening of the new Century theater. This is the 1960s edition, limited to 20, some with notes.

In no particular order:

Dr. Strangelove (Brilliant comedy about cold war paranoia and nuclear war.)

The Wild Bunch (Peckinpah classic about the end of the west.)

Bullit (McQueen plays probably the coolest cop role ever.)

Seven Days In May (Great cast in a thriller about a military coup in the U.S.)

Yojimbo & Sanjuro (Toshiro Mifune plays a scruffy Ronin in two great films. Yojimbo has been remade as A Fistful Of Dollars and Last Man Standing. The sequel is not as well known and contains the shortest sword fight in the history of film.)

Once Upon A Time In The West (Sergio Leone widescreen Spaghetti Western with Henry Fonda playing a very bad guy, very well.)

Lawrence Of Arabia

Sword Of Doom

Bonnie And Clyde (Classic fim about outlaw antiheroes.)

A Hard Day’s Night

Planet Of The Apes

Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid (Another classic film about outlaw antiheroes.)

Le Samourai (Very stylish French film about a loner hit man in Paris.)

The Graduate

In The Heat Of The Night

High And Low

2001: A Space Odyssey
