A new restaurant coming in March from the owner of the popular Rutherford Grill and a lively transformation at the old gas station are welcome signs of life at the intersection of Washington and Madison streets in Yountville.
Town of Yountville Associate Planner Sandra Smith said the north end of town needed to be redeveloped.
“We have had a lot of vacancies there. The development of Washington Square puts a nice face on Yountville,” Smith said.
Washington Square is the Yountville home of Napa Valley Toy Company, Vineyard Dog and Napa Valley Bike Tours, Kelly’s Fuel & Provisions and the upcoming R+D Kitchen.
Gasoline isn’t the only thing selling at Kelly's: The former garage section of the gas station has been transformed into a market and gift store. Inside, the walls are lined with Napa Valley premium and affordable wines. There are the fixings for an upscale or old-fashioned picnic, sandwiches and even a small table with potted plants for sale.
“We have a newsstand, espresso and best dog-gone hot dog in the valley,” Kelly said. “We just started selling soft ice cream. It’s been a big hit.”
Pete and Irene Schultz, of Omaha, were vacationing in Napa Valley this week.
“We just happened to spot this place. It’s darling,” she said, sipping her espresso. “Everything in the beautiful Napa Valley is just so unique.
"Nothing like home, not that Omaha isn’t beautiful in its own way.”
