Mechanics Bank Expands to North Napa, Adds Jobs

That new construction at Napa Crossing North is slated to be the city's second Mechanics Bank branch later this year. The bank has a policy of hiring local employees, a spokeswoman said.

Corrected from an earlier posted version giving the wrong date for the founding of Mechanics Bank. It was established in 1905, according to a bank spokeswoman.

The facility, which is under construction at the corner of California Boulevard and Permanente Way, is another retail addition to the Napa Crossing North center.

The other Mechanics Bank branch is on Soscol Avenue where it merges with Silverado Trail.

The new branch is scheduled to open in May, said Mechanics Bank spokeswoman Hattie Hamlin.

“We will be hiring local people. At this time, I don’t know how many positions we will be filing,” she said. “It is Mechanics Bank policy to hire locally.”

The 4,500-square-foot building, adjacent to Walgreens drug store, will share the parking lot with its neighbor, Napa City Senior Planner Scott Klingbeil said.

“They will be adding 15 new parking places,” Klingbeil said.

The new bank leaves only one empty lot, across the street from Mechanics, Klingbeil said. “Once that is developed, it will complete the Napa Crossing North project.”

Klingbeil said at this time, no planning permits have been requested for the remaining empty parcel.

The property developer is Pacific Properties, out of Chico, the same company that is developing Napa Crossing South on the corner of Kansas and Soscol avenues.

Currently that corner is the home of farther north on Soscol to the former home of Greenberg's Quality Motors.

Mechanics Bank was founded in 1905 by railroad station agent E.M. Downer in Pinole, according to the bank’s website.
