Caffino Coffee Drive-Through Evicted in Napa

An eviction notice from the Napa County Sheriff's Office is posted at the drive-through coffee kiosk in Bel Aire Plaza, which closed without warning last week. The phone numbers for other area Caffinos are no longer in service.

It appears that the Caffino coffee chain of drive-through coffee stands may be in trouble: Its longtime Napa kiosk, in Bel Aire Plaza, is empty and bears an eviction notice from Napa County Sheriff John Robertson assigning all remaining property to the landlord.

The phone number for the drive-through rings without an answer, while the numbers for Caffino kiosks in American Canyon and Davis have been disconnected or are no longer in service, according to recorded messages.

The corporate website for the Caffino chain, which at its peak had more than two dozen coffee bars — most of them franchises — "expired on 09/09/2012 and is pending renewal or deletion," according to Network Solutions.

The eviction notice on the Napa kiosk is dated last Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012.

Update: A Facebook user posted on the Napa Patch page Monday night that the Caffino in Vallejo had been open Monday morning.

According to an archived version of the Caffino.com website, coffee bar franchise fees started at $25,000 for the first outlet, $15,000 for a second with the same owner and $10,000 for a third and all subsequent franchises.

Such a bummer!!!! Can we get a new owner in there??
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) September 25, 2012 at 02:30 PM
I'd love to know - their listed phone number returns tone and the message that it has been disconnected or is no longer in service. Any confirmed sightings of OPEN Caffinos, please let me know and/or post a photo here! Thanks.

The location will be torn down to the ground
Hyde (Dirty Napkin) September 25, 2012 at 03:09 PM
Doug, how do you know this info?
Elaine E September 25, 2012 at 04:32 PM
Bummer! I really like Caffinos. I always got great service there and delicious coffee. I know, the traffic problems were awful, but . . . Couldn't a new owner move it to a better location?
Cindy Chambers September 25, 2012 at 05:50 PM
With Chicos coming to the south end of Bel Aire, it was going to be more of a nightmare than it already had been, especially after the new Walgreens shopping corners opened. I live in Bel Aire neighborhood and I am glad it's gone. I hope Rick Reiger is correct and it will be torn down. What worked ten years ago doesn't work anymore. Napa's in for a whole lotta changes - Saratoga to Silverado Trail, two way streets downtown, 4 lane hwy 12 and Napa Pipe. Locals pay for growth by submitting to change and growth is the holy grail, even if we end up choking on it.

It was not CAFFINO that created all the traffic, it was drivers who didn't know how to drive. Everyone wants to enter that first right hand lane and that causes lots of the back up, I know as I worked full time at CAFFINO and seen it everyday! Our rush times were 7-10 so idk why ppl seem to think it was CAFFINO that caused it, it still the same even without business open. It's really sad, I was with the company for 13 years, and yes the owner did not pay rent which is why he was evicted, amongst other issues, our staff was not treated well either, it's unfortunate to see it come down they way it has. They never answer the home office line, not even for us!!!

Even if the owner, Robert Grove, sold it, the lease was up in November anyway which the plaza was not going to re new so it would of had to be moved no matter what, we thought we had our jobs until then but unfortunately thx to Robert it came sooner.

Yes the American Canyon CAFFINO is still open, it was franchised in May I think, the new owner lives in AC, his name is Andy, very nice man. There are also a few in concord still open 2 or 3. But Bel Aire was the money maker so who knows how much longer the company will survive :/

About time. Sorry all you Deari who think that the Kiosk; Cafinos, was not a large part of the traffic bottle neck at area of Believe Aire parking lot. Sad that yet another business and employees are out of a job, maybe it can be relocated?!? Also, why is the turn right lane going out of Bel-Aire onto Trancas so wide? Two left turn lanes but because of bad measuring, Im assuming; only three cars can fit. Re - due, Please?!? Also, please use your turn signals and watch for pedestrians?! Thanks again!

Whew, so glad that the AC Caffino is still open. My 3 year old loves getting treated to hot cocoa there every now and then, and it was breaking my heart to have to tell him that we couldn't share that pastime anymore. The AC Caffino girls are great, they always put a sticker on my son's lid and they are so friendly! I'll go there vs Starbucks any day. However, I do like Starbucks as well... then again, I'm not a real coffee snob.

I agree 100%
Napa82 September 25, 2012 at 11:39 PM
I hear there's also a Pier 1 going into the plaza, it was in the Register, not very smart to put a Whole foods and Trader Joes and Target into such a small plaza, oh yea but all that traffic was Caffino's fault right... Lol ridiculous
MICHAEL WILSON "Republican Kid" September 26, 2012 at 12:56 AM
I would bet $100.00 the lease was not less than $5.000 per mo. I would bet the place will stand, Or atleast be rebuilt with a new tenant. It looks like they could only regain 2 to 4 parking spaces. I know a guy who had 6 photo development drive-thru kiosks in the 1980s He was paying $3.500 per mo then can you say cash cow.
Napa82 September 26, 2012 at 04:54 AM
The rent was actually between $2300-$3000. But I'm sure with a new lease it would be in that $5000 range, that's not a cheap plaza anymore.

I'd love to know where the AC Caffino's gets their delicious peach-raspberry scones.
Napa82 September 26, 2012 at 02:06 PM
Their pastrys come from Posh Bagels, they r pretty good ;)
Cindy Chambers September 26, 2012 at 02:08 PM
I guess I'm the only one who's ever seen the traffic going into BelAire from Trancas at a dead stop because one car was waiting to turn left to Caffino's? And this happening right after the bottleneck merge of two lanes into one? Yeah, yeah, bad drivers didn't always let the coffee buyers make their turns, I suspect because the poor southbound schmucks had already waited through more than one signal cycle trying to exit the plaza. Just picture next Christmas shopping season with Chicos and Pier One in the mix (and yes, I know it's possible to enter the shopping center through Bel Aire neighborhood - and we have the increased traffic volume to prove that a lot of folks also know how to speed through this residential neighborhood!)
Scott Yeager September 26, 2012 at 03:22 PM
You are not the only one who has noticed this phenomenon occuring.
Mama San September 26, 2012 at 03:37 PM
I was turning right into Bel Aire from Trancas last week - traffic was stopped all ways at the moment and a man in a small white truck was coming out the entrance- he was very bold about being on the wrong side of the road and beat the other traffic.
Kristina D. September 26, 2012 at 03:40 PM
Went through Caffino in AC this morning and made sure to tell them how happy I am that they are still open. They're also very happy to remain open and with a new owner. I didn't pry further into the circumstances, but I was very happy to get my nonfat latte and my lowfat cranberry muffin, in under a minute! :-)

I will miss Caffino greatly. They really do have the best drinks in town. My dog will also miss them, as she always looked forward to the treat they would give her. Maybe the the Kiosk could be moved to River Park? That would be an awesome location!
Cindy Chambers September 26, 2012 at 07:07 PM
River Park would be an excellent new location, great idea!!
Grmp12 September 26, 2012 at 07:14 PM
Louisa Hufstader - I just drove through the Caffino in American Canyon yesterday and they said they are solid! They were franchised out and they are doing fine, not going anywhere.
Grmp12 September 26, 2012 at 07:28 PM
The low fat cranberry muffins were the best!!
Mark Mathews September 27, 2012 at 12:28 AM
I second-confirm that; just bought a Latte from the AmCan Kiosk. Thank GOODNESS its still open! There is/was one in V-town on Admiral Callahan (that's "Vallejo" back before its became "Da Hood"), but I don't know if IT bit the bullet like the Napa venue...
Jennifer Wesley September 27, 2012 at 08:20 AM
Way back in the day Caffino had strawberry scones that were delicious. They made the best mochas, too.
Rick September 28, 2012 at 07:01 PM
I really Miss Caffino at Bel Aire. We really need another drive thru somewhere on the North side. Yes, we really need a Chico"s!! lol. I agree, the girls and Roberto at caffinos in Bel Aire were the greatest and treated everyone nice. The coffee was really good too, (Large Black with straw) ;)
