Delford "Del" Britton, Mayor of St. Helena, passed away January 8, 2013 surrounded by his family at the age of 74. He will be fondly remembered for his service to the City of St. Helena and dedication to the community he loved.
Mayor Britton served the St. Helena community as a volunteer with numerous local groups such as Kiwanis Club and Robert Lewis Stevenson Museum. He served as St. Helena’s mayor for eight years, and was re-elected to his fifth term in November 2012. Del touched an entire generation of St. Helena children from having second graders read aloud to him in class for the last 18 years. Del’s kindness, commitment and generosity to the community are a part of his legacy in St. Helena.
Del served his country in the Air Force for over 20 years.
The City will host a Memorial Service for Mayor Britton at a date to be determined. In addition, family funeral arrangements are pending.
