Sheriff Koford, NCTPA Chief Price Retiring

One of the county's most powerful administrators and one of its lesser-known both announced their retirements this week.

Doug Koford and Executive Director Paul Price have both announced their upcoming retirements, according to press releases from the sheriff's office and county administration.

Koford, 59, has worked for local law enforcement for 40 years, beginning as a reserve deputy when he was still in his teens, according to the press release. He was elected sheriff of Napa County in 2006 after serving about five years as chief of American Canyon's police force, which is subcontracted from the sheriff's office.

Koford was re-elected in 2010 for a term that expires in 2015. He is responsible for overseeing a department of over 100 sworn, 30 professional staff, and an operating budget of over $25 million, according to the press release.

Price, 63, has led the county's regional transportation and planning agency since 2009. He will retire in June, according to the county press release.

Keith Caldwell, chairman of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, said a search for Price's replacement is beginning "immediately."
