Sedgley Says He'll Run for Council
The retired Napa fire captain and former school board trustee prepares for his first contested race, joining political newcomer Alex Pader as a first-time candidate.
Retired said Tuesday he intends to file paperwork to run for Napa City Council in the November election.
Sedgley, 59, is the second non-incumbent to declare his interest in a Napa council seat: political newcomer Alex Pader, 26, announced last week he had taken out the necessary city paperwork to enter the race.
The two council hopefuls may be a generation apart, but they have more than one thing in common.

- Both grew up attending local schools:
Sedgley is an alumnus of , Ridgeview Junior High School (now ) and ; his son teaches at and his wife works at .
Pader attended , , Silver State Helicopter Academy and before continuing his education at California State University, Sacramento, he said.

- Both have experience in educational policy:
Sedgley spent nine years as a trustee on the Board of Education of the .
Pader served as the President of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC), a position he describes as "a policy analyst, grassroots organizer and student lobbyist" for 2.6 million community college students.
- Neither has faced opposition in a municipal election.
Although Sedgley was twice elected to the school board after accepting an appointment to fill a vacancy in 1992, he ran unopposed both times.
Pader has not previously run for municipal office.
