Round-the-Clock Relay Brings Runners Through County

Motorists will be sharing the roads with these speedy pedestrians Saturday: an advisory message from Napa County Public Works.

The “Ragnar Relay” is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout Napa County.

The event is a 180-mile long-distance running relay, which begins in San Francisco on the morning of Friday, September 16.

After traveling day and night through Marin and Sonoma Counties, it will enter Napa County on Highway 12/121 at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday the 17th.

Involved roads in the unincorporated area include:

• Highway 12/121, County line to Cuttings Wharf
• Cuttings Wharf Road
• Golden Gate Drive
• 4th Avenue
• Coombsville Road
• 1st Avenue
• Hagen Road
• Vichy Avenue
• Hwy 121, Vichy to Trancas
• Trancas Street
• Silverado Trail, Trancas to Deer Park
• Hwy 29/128, Deer Park to Calistoga

Runners will participate in 12-person teams; at any time, one (person) will be running alongside the road (facing traffic) and 11 will be in vans following the course between designated “exchange” points.

The event is expected to attract 300 teams (for a total of up to 3,600 participants).

By the time the runners get to Napa County, they will be widely spaced along the course.

Other than the team members in the vans, there will not be any spectators.

Roads will be open to traffic throughout the course; motorists please use caution.
