Hillary Gitelman to become Palo Alto's new director of planning

Info from County of Napa

Napa County planning director Hillary Gitelman has informed County Executive Officer Nancy Watt and the Board of Supervisors that she is leaving Napa County to become the director of planning for the City of Palo Alto, Watt confirmed.

Gitelman was hired as the County’s director of conservation, development and planning in 2005, and led the effort to update the County’s general plan, which was adopted in June 2008. In 2012, the Board of Supervisors consolidated departments and Gitelman became head of the  Department of Planning, Building and Environmental Services.

“I have enjoyed every minute in Napa County, and have great respect for the County’s elected and appointed leaders, and staff,” said Gitelman.  “I always knew it would take a special professional challenge to lure me away from Napa, where land use principles like the agricultural preserve have such widespread support.”

Gitelman’s appointment is subject to Palo Alto City Council ratification on Sept. 16, and her last day in Napa County will be Oct. 18.
