Monday A.M. Main Break Causing Brown Water, Outages; Fix Expected Later Today

A water-main break this morning -- Monday -- about 4:15 a.m. in the Cooks and Laurel Street area is disrupting water service to Napa customers, according to the Napa City Water Division.

Repairs are underway, with an estimated completion time of 5 p.m. today, said a city employee.

While some residents reported outages, others are experiencing brown water. The city has no solid numbers on the numbers of homes affected.

The water is actually safe to drink or use, as the brown discoloration is iron sediment found in pipes, however, the city recommends not washing clothes, particularly whites, as the discoloration could transfer.

The city recommends running hoses and faucets until the water runs clear before doing laundry.
