Tucker said taxpayers who believe they have not received their refunds should go to IRS.gov and click on the “Where’s My Refund?” link, or use the phone number 1-800-829-1954 to retrieve their lost tax refund.

He warned against giving out personal information in response to emails that mention pending tax refunds, as the IRS does not use email to notify taxpayers of pending refunds.

Nationwide, the IRS is looking to return a total of $153.3 million in undelivered refunds to more than 99,000 taxpayers, averaging $1,547 a check, Tucker said.
