Joan Bennett is a starry-eyed Liberal.

Thanks God idiocy is not a crime or this woman would have been arrested on the spot! She wouldn't be against BHO's daughters "safety" while at school, or would she? Bulimia is not recommended, but a gastric bypass might be a better choice.

It really makes it difficult to build unity on a topic we ALL agree don't want to have happen again, when people fly off the handle, scoff and gyrate, when others speak about how they feel. We are suppose to listen, learn, and then figure out the best direction. We are police officers, we are citizens, we have to talk it out and generate a plan we can make work- that works and creating divide with arrogant antics is NOT the way to go about it. This goes for many of the conversations taking place today.

I could vomit when I here people make statements like this.
Louisa Hufstader (Editor) January 10, 2013 at 04:23 PM
Thanks, Stefan. I hope more people get to watch the forum in its entirety to hear what others said. It was a gripping evening and some in attendance were quite on edge. Napa TV is making it available Thursdays at 1pm and Saturdays at 10:30am for the rest of the month.

Why do gun owners seem to feel so threatened by the awful deaths in schools and workplaces? Some gun owners come across as a minority who get very vocal and like to bully people who don't want to own guns. (That kind of reasoning makes me want to vomit). No solution to this issue can occur without both sides working together.
Ash Leigh January 10, 2013 at 05:49 PM
Mike, I don't think gun owners feel threatened by these awful deaths, we are all hurt by it. We do feel our Second Amendment being threatened from people that have never even owned/shot/used a firearm or taken any kind of firearm course. Ignorance is bliss. What I don't understand is, when the Ted Kaczynski (Unabomber) was going around doing his thing, was there any cry for control of the materials there? There are thousands of methods you can make a bomb online. What about known child molestors/rapist? Why aren't their parts destroyed to prevent other crimes? Criminal thieves, cut off their hands while we're at it. Drunk drivers... I can go on and on and on. There are other ways to prevent future situations. What about one main entry/foyer type, with a glass door? An individual has to be buzzed in. Sound stupid? I worked in a design and printing company in Detroit that did this, to prevent weirdos from just walking in. My daughters elementry and middle schools in Westland, Michigan does this. It works.

I agree Ron. I wonder how she feels about the slaughter of a classroom of babies.
Paddy January 10, 2013 at 06:03 PM
Mike, I think everyone, including gun owners, grieves over the insane slaughter perpetrated by those who are mentally deranged. I believe many of us feel threatened by knee-jerk reactions that believe eliminating our freedoms is somehow a good solution. Let's start with shutting down violent games and movies that glorify the taking of life. There should also be a limit placed on the coverage these slaughters receive in the news media.

wow.. I wish I would have known about this prior.. I found out at the end of the day on the froent page of NVR.. "Town hall meeting" hosted by Mike thompson on guns.. tonight.. Sorry I missed it

I agree with Paddy but would like to add eliminating television programs that glorify teen pregnancy, serial killers, brutal torture, and sexual violence. Movies are made to appeal to 18-24 year-old men, and we wonder why most of of our gun violence is done by young men. A quote from the forum: " Guns don't kill, our sons do." What is cut in our country? We deeply cut or waste mental health funding. We blame medications that do help those with mental health issues. We turn our most vulnerable population into the homeless and imprisoned. Let' have a conversation on this subject as well as guns.
Penny January 10, 2013 at 08:39 PM
thank you Mike, very well said. Some of the gun owners sound as if an important appendage is going to be removed. There are many of us who shutter at guns and do not enjoy being around them.
Penny January 10, 2013 at 08:41 PM
I have always heard the movies were made to appeal to 13 year old boys.
Renee Cazares January 10, 2013 at 09:13 PM
To me this is a gun safety, and not a gun rights issue. How do we keep guns out of the wrong hands?
SF49ers January 10, 2013 at 11:59 PM
Dose this Council Member's know that most Jr high/high schools in Napa have local police officers there with a pistol and AR-15 or shotgun in there car???

Esiuol, we install steel doors on industrial facilities to keep people out; that is what we need at schools and other "soft" targets. The Sandy Hook school locked their front door but Adam Lanza just knocked out the glass window and opened it anyway.
Ashley Derr January 11, 2013 at 03:20 AM
A very well reasoned comment Stefan. I couldn't agree more!
