County Eyes Sales Tax for Roads

The is again studying the possibility of asking voters to approve a half-cent sales tax for repairs and improvements to local roadways, as it did unsuccessfully in 2006.

According to a report in the , the proposed tax would go into effect in 2018, which is the expiration year of the county's half-cent sales tax for flood control.

Representatives from the Sierra Club and the Napa County Taxpayers Association have told the NCTPA they don't like the proposed tax, the newspaper reports, while the mayor of St. Helena said roads there are so bad the city can't wait till 2018 and may float its own tax measure.
