Woman, 77, Hit by Vehicle in Napa Crosswalk

Louise Sparlin was hospitalized with major injuries after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Calistoga Street Tuesday morning, according to Napa police, who say the collision does not appear to be drug or alcohol related.

A 77-year-old Napa woman was struck by a vehicle in a Napa crosswalk, according to a bulletin from Capt. Jeff Troendly of the City of Napa Police Department:

On 10-16-2012 at approximately 10:22 a.m., Louise Sparlin (77 years) of Napa was crossing Calistoga St. in the crosswalk, when she was struck by a vehicle driven by John Ray (52 years).

Mr. Ray was N/B on Seminary St. stopped at the stop sign at Calistoga St. Mr. Ray made a left turn at this intersection at a low speed and struck Ms. Sparlin with his vehicle.

This collision does not appear to be alcohol or drug related and is currently under investigation.

Ms. Sparlin was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center by American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance service. Ms. Sparlin sustained major injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes following the collision, Troendly said.
