WInemaker's Home Burns on Atlas Peak

The modern design of the home has made it difficult for firefighters to control the blaze that broke out late Thursday afternoon. By Bay City News Service.

Firefighters worked through the night to control a fire that began around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a home on Atlas Peak.

The fire has been because of the shape and
design of the "modern" house, said Cal Fire Division Chief Dave Shew. Crews have had difficulty getting water into the house.

The structure of the house has been significantly damaged and Shew said it most likely cannot be salvaged.

According to a report in the , the home belongs to winemaker Jayson Pahlmeyer, who had planned to host his daughter's wedding there tomorrow.

The house fire spread to vegetation surrounding the house. It burned less than an acre of vegetation before wildland firefighters extinguished , Shew said.

Neighboring homes are not threatened and the fire is isolated to this single property, he said.

The house's occupants were not at home when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.

Investigators have not been able to get into the home, slowing a more thorough investigation that could explain the cause of the blaze.

Shew said an addition to the house is being built. No workers or contractors were around when the fire started.
As many as 100 fire crews have helped battle the fire since Thursday afternoon, Shew estimated. Firefighters will cycle shifts as the fire continues through the morning and likely throughout the day.
