Monday, March 11: Kirkland Fire has uploaded video of Airlift NW lifting off after the plane crash.

WOODINVILLE, WA -- A 45-year-old Redmond pilot was killed and his teenaged passenger was critically injured after a small plane struck a house just outside Woodinville at 3 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders reported.

The son of the owners of the house in the 23000 block of Northeast 144th Street was home when the plane struck the home, but was not injured in the crash.

Emergency responders said Saturday they believe the passenger is the pilot's nephew.

UPDATE: 12:10 a.m. KOMO News indentified the pilot as Jay Uusitalo, 45, of Redmond. The passenger who was critically injured reportedly was his nephew.

UPDATE: 8:11 p.m.: The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the pilot was a 45-year-old man from Redmond, and his passenger from Spokane, KING 5 reporter Zahid Arab reported. The investigation will continue Sunday.

UPDATE, 5:35 p.m.: Witnesses who live a couple of miles away said they heard the small plane sputtering before it crashed into the quiet residential Ring Hill area of Woodinville on Saturday.

“I heard the plane fly over, and it was loud,” said Erik Zoba, who came to the crash scene to see what happened. “It definitely got my attention.”

His friend Matthew Russo described the sound as “pitched low, and very loud.”

Neither heard the crash itself.

Virginia Hanson, who lives across the street, said it sounded like someone dropped a garbage can. She didn't realize the plane had crashed until she saw the fire department.

The plane appeared to have struck a minivan that was parked in the driveway before hitting the garage.

The home's occupant declined to talk to Patch on Saturday about two hours after the incident. Neighbors said the man was the son of the homeowners, who were away.

Woodinville Fire & Rescue spokesman David Weed confirmed that the teenage passenger was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries. The pilot, believed to the boy’s uncle, died at the scene.

UPDATE, 5:05 p.m.: One person was killed and a teenager was critically injured Saturday when the small plane they were in crashed into a home near Woodinville.

The pilot died in the crash, which happened around 3 p.m. in the 23000 block of Northeast 144th Street, according to responders at the scene.

The pilot's nephew was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries.

A person home at the time of the crash wasn't hurt, authorities said. The occupant didn't hear anything before the crash, but neighbors said they heard a sputtering that stopped before the crash.

The plane crashed into the side of the house at the garage. Nothing caught fire, and the home's structure remained sound, authorities said.

It's not known where the plane was coming from or headed to, authorities said.

The aircraft, identified as a Maule M-5, generally is configured to seat four. The FAA website identified it as registered to Uventures LLC of Redmond.

A total grassroots generated upheaval will fix it, nothing less. " Hand to mouth"Read More financial conditions and the confiscation of our children's future foreclose on just about anything working shy of a bleaching of our system as we know it. HRM

Not so much that the Government is broken That is as it is. The question is how do we fix it?

You know Haley, it is our nature, we guess to post comments when we disagree with someone. Yet IRead More have to give you a secular AMEN for your 2:54pm statement. We would think that anyone over the age of say, twenty, would already know that, but progress is being made. The strategy of tension rules the process now, by design. HRM

MICHAEL WILSON May 20, 2013 at 08:40 am
Ya Wendy I do hope he returns. I am not sure why the police are calling him a runaway

Keri, I have heard from the tech people, and my instructions were to clear cache, erase cookies,Read More reboot, etc. All things having to do with my computer, not with the website. I get the same issues on two different computers at different homes as well as my iPad that is logged on anywhere. Pretty sure it is not on my end. There are far too many things that are a step down from previous site. Examples: Can't seperate paragraphs in comments, no "reply" option on comments makes it difficult to know who is responding to whom, itty-bitty profile avatars smaller than a pea, green on everything makes features less distinguishable, on and on.
