Victim of Coombsville Crash Identified

The driver of the 1967 Chevy Nova was a 30-year-old Napa man, according to the Napa Valley Register.

 

The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of on Coombsville Road as 30-year-old Peter Gerlach of Napa, according to a report in the .

Gerlach was driving his 1967 Chevy Nova west on Coombsville Road shortly before 11 p.m. when for unknown reasons the car drifted across the road and struck an oak tree, according to CHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene by CalFire and AMR ambulance crews.

The Register reports it is unknown at this time whether the car had been retrofitted with three-point seatbelts, which were not required in automobiles sold in the U.S. until 1968.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
