Upvalley Woman Struck in Face with Ax, Man Arrested, Napa Newspaper Reports

Richard Alan Edwards, 59, was jailed on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, causing mayhem and possession of a short-barreled shotgun, according to the Napa Valley Register.

An Upvalley woman was taken to St. Helena Hospital early Sunday morning with a seriously lacerated face and a 59-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing the injury with a double-bladed ax, according to a report on the website.
The article reports that deputies said the woman was at home in the couple's trailer on Pope Valley Road when Richard Alan Edwards, 59, began throwing cans at the windows and then breaking the glass with an ax.
The ax head separated from the handle and hit the woman in the face, according to the Register.
After fleeing and then returning to the trailer later Sunday morning, Edwards was jailed on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, causing mayhem and possession of a short-barreled shotgun, according to the report.
