Unconscious Hiker Rescued Tuesday on Oat Hill Mine Trail

The California Highway Patrol rescued a man who became unconscious while hiking with a group in Calistoga on Tuesday morning, a CHP officer said.

The hiker, who is approximately 70 years old, was six miles up Oat Hill Mine Trail in Calistoga in remote, rugged terrain, CHP Officer Anna Paulson said.

The CHP's H32 helicopter responded around noon to the trail near the Palisades, Paulson said.

The helicopter crew was able to land and transport the hiker to a ground ambulance at the Calistoga Fairgrounds, where he was then taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Paulson said.

The hiker's name was not immediately released.
