Update: Arrested Man Had Applied to Run Pot Clinic

Agents seized about 70 plants and 14 pounds of processed marijuana, according to the Napa Special Investigations Bureau. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

Updated Jan. 19: One of the two men arrested, Mark Hammond, had been an applicant for a license to operate a medical marijuana clinic in the city of Napa, according to a report in this morning's .

After a month-long investigation, on Thursday Jan. 12th, NSIB agents served a search warrant on an estate in the 2100 block of Soda Canyon Road. 

They found an illegal indoor marijuana growing operation with evidence that the growers were trying to use the California Compassionate Use Act (CUA) laws to protect their for profit operation which is contrary to the intent of the CUA.

Approximately 70 plants and 14 pounds of processed marijuana were seized. Evidence of large scale cultivation and sales was also found and collected. 

Ryan Maeda was found at the growing location and was taken into custody and booked at . 

Investigation has revealed evidence linking the property owner to the growing operation and sales of marijuana. An arrest warrant will be requested for that person.

Evidence at the scene linked Mark Hammond as a principal in the growing operation. Agents contacted Hammond at his residence in the 3200 block of Vichy Ave that same day. They found and seized approximately 10 pounds of processed marijuana and approximately $13,000 in cash hidden in his residence, along with further evidence of extensive sales of marijuana.

Hammond was taken into custody and booked at NCDC.

Maeda, 29 and Hammond, 40, face charges of marijuana cultivation and sales, Anderson said.
