Transient Summons Police, Gets Arrested on Suspicion of Stealing iPad

A transient who called police to report a robbery was arrested on suspicion of theft of an iPad

Talk about a switcharoo.

A Napa man went to jail this afternoon after calling police to report that he had been robbed.

Several officers responded to a report of a robbery at 4 p.m., that had reportedly occurred on the Napa River trail south of Third Street. They encountered Matthew Prieto, 32, a transient, who allegedly told police that he had just been robbed at knifepoint along the trail.

Prieto told the officers that a thief robbed his employer's iPad according to the Napa Police Department. The officers noticed that Prieto showed signs up being drunk and they administered a breath test that confirmed their suspicion police said.

An officer located a stolen iPad where Prieto had been drinking, on the 1000 block of First Street, and took him into custody. The iPad was returned to its owner.

Prieto was on probation with terms not to drink alcoholic beverages and had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest for a previous DUI.
