Members of several Napa County law enforcement agencies are holing a joint fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Northern California with a “Tip-A-Cop” event at the Napa Applebee’s Restaurant tonight -- Wednesday -- from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m..

This is part of the fundraising efforts by local law enforcement officers in preparation for the annual law enforcement torch run and the Special Olympics of Northern California.

The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with mental retardation.

In Northern California, more than 14,000 persons have participated in local, area, and chapter-wide competitions. The programs are offered at no expense to all eligible athletes, and are possible solely due to generous financial contributions and many very dedicated volunteers.

Uniformed officers will team with regular wait staff to wait on tables.

In addition to the tips customers leave their respective servers, a donation may be made to the Special Olympics; 100 percent of all “Tip-A-Cop” donations will go to help fund the needs of the Special Olympics.

The event will take place at the Applebee’s Restaurant located at 195 Soscol Ave., in the City of Napa.
