Suspected Purse Thief Arrested in Browns Valley, Napa Police Say

A Browns Valley woman spotted a man with a woman's purse going door to door Tuesday night, then realized the purse was hers, Napa police said. A South Carolina man is suspected of stealing from multiple victims.

A 25-year-old South Carolina man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of receiving stolen property after a resident called police to report a suspicious person at around 10 p.m., according to an arrest summary from the City of Napa Police Department:

Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Scenic concerning a suspicious person. The reporting party saw a male subject going door to door in the neighborhood.

The reporting party thought it was strange the male subject was carrying what appeared to be a women’s purse. Moments later, the reporting party discovered her purse was missing from her vehicle and notified police.

Officers located a subject matching the description provided by the reporting party on the corner of Browns Valley Road and Dezerai Court. The Male subject was identified as Marcus Mack (25 yrs. out of Columbia, South Carolina).

Mack consented to a search of his person and was found to be in possession of several items not belonging to him; such as identification’s bank cards, cell phones, etc.

The original reporting party identified her stolen purse and suspect Mack.

At the time of the report, officers were able to identify four other victims of theft. Mack was placed under arrest for Possession of Stolen Property and booked at the Napa County Jail.

Arrest information does not indicate convictions.

I think that's the guy that came to my house too. Seemed very nice and said he was trained make people feel comfortable with him, having eye contact and speaking clearly etc. I thought he said it was a church from South Carolina taking kids off the street and showing them there is a better way and that they were selling Bibles and magazine subscriptions. I turned him away, but I did mention to my husband that he was good at seeming harmless but I didn't like that he came to our door after dark.

Don't all men that live in California wear a woman's purse?
