Suspected Burglars Jailed After Struggle; Stolen Firearms, Ammo, Jewelry Found, Napa Police Say

Justin Kent, 22, of Napa and William Simms, 49, of Calistoga face charges including burglary, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property after they were found with firearms, ammunition and jewelry, police said.

A 22-year-old Napa man and a 49-year-old Calistoga man were arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of burglary, resisting an officer, receiving stolen property and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to a shift activity log from the :

A Napa PD Officer was on patrol in the area of SR-29 and Wine Country Ave and observed Justin Kent (2/10/90) of Napa as a passenger in a vehicle.

The officer recognized Kent from prior contacts and knew him to have a warrant for his arrest as well as being on Napa County probation with search and seizure terms.

The Officer stopped the vehicle near Linda Vista and Wine Country and contacted the driver, William Floyd Simms (2/14/63) of Calistoga.

The Officer attempted to place Kent under arrest for the warrant and Kent violently resisted the officer.

After a brief struggle and the arrival of additional officers Kent was taken into custody.

Inside the vehicle was located several firearms, ammunition and jewelry that were stolen earlier in the day during a residential burglary in the City of Calistoga.

Both Kent and Simms were determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance, and both were confirmed to have prior felony convictions making it unlawful to possess firearms or ammunition.

Kent and Simms were booked into NCDC and the stolen property was recovered.

Kent faces additional charges of being a felon with a firearm and ammunition and violation of probation, police said.

Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
