A tip Monday evening led police to the suspect in a theft from the south Napa Target, who led officers on a destructive high-speed chase through the city that ended when he abandoned the stolen car he had been driving and jumped from the Trancas Street bridge, according to a statement from Capt. Jeff Troendly of the City of Napa Police Department:
On 10/29/2012 at approximately 1900 hrs., Napa Police Department received information about the whereabouts of the subject who fled from police earlier in the day.
Napa PD Officers responded to the east side of the Trancas St Bridge and searched a campsite under the bridge.
Steven Stone, (11/1/78) of Lake County, was located at the campsite and was confirmed to be the suspect from the earlier pursuit of the stolen vehicle and theft from target. He was taken into custody without incident.
Napa Fire Department and American Medical Response ambulance service responded to the scene to treat Stone for injuries likely sustained from his jump from the bridge.
Stone was admitted to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Troendly said.
The 33-year-old faces charges of felony evading arrest with a vehicle, hit and run, burglary and vehicle theft.
