Strip Mall Fire Burns Napa Stores

The two-alarm fire at Jefferson Street and Pueblo Avenue was reported shortly before 1 a.m. today, according to Bay City News Service.

Updated 5 p.m.: Six Pueblo Plaza businesses have been burned out, not seven as reported this morning. The businesses on the east side of the plaza remain operational. Pueblo Avenue has been closed west of Jefferson Street all day. At 4 p.m. it was closed between Jefferson and Stadium Avenue. The bike path between Jefferson and Pueblo has also been closed.

Earlier on Napa Patch: A fire heavily damaged seven businesses in a Napa strip mall early this morning, a fire battalion chief said.

The fire at Jefferson Street and Pueblo Avenue was reported shortly before 1 a.m. today.

A second alarm was called shortly after that, and firefighters had the fire under control about an hour later, Battalion Chief Steve Stuart said.

The 250-foot by 50-foot single-story commercial structure houses seven businesses and all were heavily damaged by the fire, Stuart said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. There were no other injuries to firefighters or civilians, Stuart said.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours after the fire was contained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
