Solo Crash Sends Napa Man to Hospital

The "Jaws of Life" were needed to remove Emilio Martinez from his wrecked Honda Civic

A Napa man suffered possible head and back injuries when his car plowed into a tree stump early this morning.

Emilio Martinez, 20, was driving on South Freeway Drive, Colina Court around 5 a.m., when his Toyota Civic left the roadway and smacked into the tree, according to Napa Fire Capt. Jim Pope.

“The victim had an altered level of consciousness when paramedics arrived on scene,” Pope said.

Pope did not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the cause of the crash.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Martinez from his vehicle, he said.

Martinez was taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center.
