Napa Sheriff: Bloodied, Suicidal Man May Face Felony Charges for $100,000 Vandalism Upvalley

A 37-year-old Fairfield man is being held for mental health evaluation after he was found covered in blood from large lacerations on his hand late Tuesday night and, the next day, connected with extensive vandalism discovered at an Upvalley vineyard property, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart writes,

On 8/21/12 at about 2325 hrs, deputies responded to the 2800 block of Spring Mountain Road for a report of a man covered in blood, trying to waive down passing cars. Deputies contacted the man who had two large lacerations on his left hand and whose clothes were covered in dried blood. The man would not identify himself or state how he had received his injuries. He was also intoxicated and threatening suicide. The man was taken to St. Helena Hospital for treatment.

On 8/22/12 at about 0700 hrs., a vineyard manager on Spring Mountain Road reported finding a Honda Civic abandoned on the property (3100 block). The Honda had crashed through at least one gate on the property. Investigation revealed several historic buildings on the property had been vandalized, with windows and doors destroyed, and blood throughout.

No property was missing, however about $100,000 in damage was done to several buildings.

The suspect was medically treated at the hospital and then a mental health hold was placed on him. He is 37 years old, out of Fairfield. The report will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible felony vandalism charges.
