Scam Clouds News on Napa Valley D.A.R.E. Fundaiser Aug. 29

Event, co-sponsored by Safe Schools Foundation, is 5 to 8 p.m. at Compadres.

A telemarketer from San Mateo is apparently using the upcoming Napa D.A.R.E. Fiesta Night as a cover for a scam, police said.

Napa Police Lt. Debbie Peecook said people should ignore any calls from 650-240-1111 or any other phone calls requesting donations for D.A.R.E.

"This is a scam," Peecook said. "The Napa Police Department does not solicite donations via the telephone for the D.A.R.E. Program."
