Register: Candle May Have Sparked Napa Blaze Sunday

The fast-moving house fire prompted a city-wide response, according to the Napa Valley Register.

Napa fire officials are blaming a candle for the fire that left six Monroe Street residents homeless Sunday afternoon, according to a report published Monday on the website.

Fire Capt. Roger Reichenberg told the newspaper that about 18 firefighters were called to quell the blaze, which took about 20 minutes to extinguish but did what Reichenberg estimated to be “tens of thousands of dollars" in damage.

A resident of the home in the 400 block of Monroe told firefighters she had been burning a candle and although she thought she had put it out, after she took a shower she found her bedroom in flames, according to the Register report.
