Punch a Cop, Get a K-9 Bite in Napa

With the assistance of a police dog, a 35-year-old man was arrested in Kennedy Park Sunday evening after Napa police said he drove drunk with small children as passengers, then punched an officer and ran away.

 

A 35-year-old man driving with two little children in Kennedy Park was jailed on a string of possible charges Sunday evening after a traffic stop devolved into violence, according to a shift activity log released by the :

At about 7 PM NPD Officers responded to Kennedy Park due to a report of a DUI driver. An Officer on scene observed the vehicle driving in the area and stopped it for a traffic violation.

The driver later identified as Luis Medina 08-25-76 exited the vehicle.

The Officer spoke with Medina who was uncooperative.

A struggle took place and Medina punched the Officer and fled on foot.

A foot pursuit took place involving the Officer and his K-9. 

Medina was taken into custody and possibly sustained a K-9 bite to his left knee.

It was determined that Medina had a suspended license to drive and is on probation.

Two small children ages 5 and 2 were in the vehicle. Medina was booked at NCDC. Medina sustained minor injuries.

The potential charges against Medina include child endangerment, a felony; driving under the influence; resisting arrest; battery on a peace officer; violation of probation and driving with a suspended license, police said.
