UPDATE: Napa Stabbing Took Place After Fight Over Stolen Property

Napa Police give details on stabbing incident in Napa over the weekend.

A 26-year-old Napa-area homeless man was arrested over the weekend in connection with an alleged stabbing incident.

David James McCarthy was taken into custody at 9:50 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Fourth Street in Napa.

Police said he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and giving false information to a police officer.

According to a recent update in the Napa Police log, officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing that occurred in the area of the 1300 block of Fourth Street.

Upon arrival, it was determined McCarthy and another man had been having an ongoing dispute over stolen property.

The other man and McCarthy got into a physical fight in the area of the 1300 block of 4th Street.

During the mutual combat fight, McCarthy pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man once in the abdomen and then fled the area.

McCarthy was located within a few blocks of the incident location and taken into custody without incident.

The man who was stabbed was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center by AMR after being treated at the scene by Napa Fire Department. The man was treated and released for a minor injury.

The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and providing false information to a police officer and booked into Napa County Detention Center.

Police have confirmed that a person was stabbed Saturday morning at the Hope Center on Fourth Street in downtown Napa.

The victim sustained moderate injuries, said Napa Police Sgt. Scott Holliday. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police arrested a 24-year-old male suspect and have him in custody, Holliday said.

Police responded to a call on the 1300 block of Fourth Street. The stabbing may have occurred near or inside the Hope Center.
