Napa police on Thursday arrested a transient on suspicion of stealing jewelry from a woman's home and selling it to a pawn shop while she was on vacation.
The jewelry worth $2,700 was stolen from the woman's home in the 30 block of Hazelwood Drive in Napa while she was on vacation between Aug. 7 and Aug. 13, police Capt. Jeff Troendly said.
The woman said she suspected the burglar was 19-year-old Tyler Russell, a Napa-area transient whom she did not trust, Troendly said.
When the woman asked the owner of the Wine Country Coin, Gold and
Silver pawn shop if he bought jewelry from Russell, the owner showed her the
jewelry and said he paid Russell $750 for it, according to Troendly.
The victim notified police, and detectives learned Russell was living in a Motel 6 in Vallejo, Troendly said.
Russell was arrested on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, receiving stolen property and on a warrant for DUI, Troendly said.
