Police Say Crash on 29 was DUI

A South Bay motorist faces a felony charge after her SUV landed atop a convertible last evening, badly injuring the second driver. Arrest information from the Napa Police Department does not indicate a conviction.

A Redwood City motorist driving under the influence caused Friday's dinner-hour crash on Highway 29 that critically injured a second driver, 32-year-old Marco Antonio Navarrete of Napa, according to a press release issued shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday by the :

At about 6:40 p.m. Napa Police Officers responded to a major injury collision that had occurred southbound SR29 and Salvador Ave.

A Mitsubishi Montero, driven by Zembya Matamoros, 38 years, Redwood City resident, was southbound on SR29 approaching Salvador Ave.

Witnesses stated that Matamoros’ vehicle swerved to the right and started sliding sideways. 

Witnesses stated Matamoros lost control of her vehicle and collided with a vehicle driven by Navarrete.

Navarrete was stopped on Salvador Ave waiting to turn right onto southbound SR29 from Salvador Ave. 

Matamaros’ vehicle rolled over the top of Navarrete’s vehicle pushing it onto the Wine Train tracks. 

Matamaros’ vehicle came to rest between SR29 and the Wine Train tracks.

Navarrete suffered a skull fracture and major internal injuries.  He was transported to and admitted into ICU.

Matamoros and her passenger, Evan Soriano, 37 years, Miami FL resident, each sustained minor injuries.  They were treated at QVH and released. 

Matamoros was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol and was booked at NCDC for Felony DUI.

SR29 was closed for approximately 4 hours while the Napa Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Team investigated the collision.
