POLICE: Napa Man Was 'Looking for Gold' at Buckhorn

43-year-old man arrested on suspicion of burglary.

 
A 43-year-old Napa man was arrested over the weekend at the Buckhorn Grill after he allegedly told police he was going through the eatery's storage area "looking for gold," police said.

Dalen Lance Smith was taken into custody at 9 p.m. Sunday at the restaurant at
1201 Napa Town Center, Napa on suspicion of burglary and probation violation.

According to the police log, officers were dispatched to the report of suspicious circumstances at Buckhorn Grill. The reporting party, a Buckhorn employee, told  police dispatch that an unknown male was going through property in Buckhorn`s locked storage area.

The employee said the male was still on scene in the alley way behind the business. The employee said the man was in the storage area and he appeared to be unstable.

The employee told officers when he confronted the suspect about being in the locked storage area, the suspect said he had  permission from "Mr. Merrill" and was "looking for gold."

The employee told officers the suspect had taken a ladder and an ax from the storage area and placed them outside.

Officers confronted the suspect inside the storage area. He was later identified as Smith. Smith told officers he had permission from “Mr. Merrill” to “look for gold” in the storage area.

Smith was taken into custody and booked into Napa County Department of Correction for burglary and violation of probation.
