Police Log: Graveyard Shift Kept Busy

While you slept, your police force was at work -- catching wanted felons, stopping copper wire theft from Kennedy Park, and more.

Three separate incidents overnight occupied the officers of the with a variety of crimes, from drug possession to copper theft to firearms violations.

At 9:38 pm Wednesday night, a NPD patrol officer stopped a vehicle being driven by Roberto Miguel Munoz (38 years old) in the area of Klamath Ct. / Klamath Wy. for a lighting equipment violation. A records check revealed Munoz had a $250,000 arrest warrant out of Napa County for burglary and drugs related charges. Munoz was placed under arrest and suspected methamphetamine was located on his person.

There was a passenger in the vehicle by the name of Brittany Laskelle (21 years old). Laskelle was evaluated and determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. She was placed under arrest. A drug sniff by one of NPD’s K-9’s was conducted on the vehicle. As a result suspected heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana and prescription medication for the purposes of sales were located.

Early Thursday morning, about 2 am, NPD patrol officers went back to Kennedy Park to conduct a patrol check. Upon their arrival, they could hear the suspects cutting wire and pulling it through the conduit. A perimeter was established as the initial officers continued to conduct surveillance on the suspects.

Jeremy Davidson 30 years old and Casey Cummesky 28 years old both of Vallejo, were both arrested as they began walking out a load of stolen copper wire. An initial survey of the softball field area revealed an extensive amount of damage, duffel bags and the tools they used to commit the theft.

An initial estimate of the cost to repair the damage is $25,000 dollars and it is anticipated several nighttime softball games will be cancelled or rescheduled. Both suspects were booked at NCDC.

But the long night was yet to end. At  3:49 am, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 3rd St. regarding suspicious activity. Upon arrival they located two subjects hiding in the driveway of a residence near a vehicle with exposed wires. The officers attempted to make contact with the resident to determine if they were a victim of any crime. They knocked on the door and announced as police officers.

The resident, Robert Cabrera, 54 years old, answered the door and pointed a handgun at one of the police officers. Cabrera quickly dropped the gun when the officer ordered him to do so. A records check revealed Cabrera was on Napa County Probation, and one of his terms was not to consume alcohol. Cabrera was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

The two subjects in the driveway were determined to be associates of Cabrera. Cabrera was placed under arrest and booked at NCDC.
