Three people broke into a home Monday evening and kidnapped a resident

Petaluma police are investigating a brazen kidnapping that occurred Monday evening on a residential street near downtown.

Shortly before 9pm, police received a call from a woman saying that she just witnessed three people kidnapping someone in the 600 block of Sixth Street. The woman provided a description of the suspects and the getaway car, enabling police to apprehend them a short distance away.

Methamphetamine and a loaded gun were found on the suspects, along with the 30-year-old man who was kidnapped.

"An investigation is still ongoing, but this is a legitimate kidnapping," said Lt. Tim Lyons, a Petaluma police spokesman, adding that the incident may be tied to drugs and/or money.

The arrested are Genoveva Ramirez, 28, of Santa Rosa, Eduardo Hernandez, 32, of Sebastopol, and Raul Atilano-Lopez, 29, of Penngrove.

The three have been charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a loaded gun, possession of methamphetamine for sale and making terrorist threats.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Petaluma police at 778-4372.
