Police: Car Thief Caught, Threatening Drunk Arrested

Arrest information from the Napa Police Department does not indicate convictions.

A 24-year-old man was jailed Thursday morning in south Napa after he was caught driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the day, according to shift activity logs released by the :

On 8-25-11 at approximately 0600 hours, the Napa Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Hemlock Street concerning a stolen vehicle report.

The victim reported that an unknown subject stole his '99 Nissan Maxima from his driveway and was last seen on Hemlock toward Jefferson St.

At approximately 0845 hours, a citizen reported seeing the victim’s stolen vehicle in the area of Locust Street.

Officers arrived on scene and stopped the stolen vehicle in the area of South Minahen and Imola Ave.

Officers arrested the driver, Aaron Gilmet (24) for possession of stolen property and vehicle theft.

Gilmet was booked at the , according to police.

Thursday evening, reported threats by a man with a knife led to his arrest, police said:

On 08/25/11 about 1840 hours NPD Officers responded to a report of a disturbance which occurred at a residence in the 2100 block of Harding Ave.

The Reporting Party told NPD Dispatch that the responsible, Justin Gruber 21 years old of Napa, armed himself with a knife from the residence.

The RP said Gruber threatened to kill the police with the knife if the RP called 911.

When Gruber realized the police were called, he fled the residence on foot, allegedly with the knife.

Responding NPD units located Gruber hiding in a front yard in the 2100 block of Wilkins Ave.

Gruber was taken into custody without incident.

The knife was located in a bush in the backyard at the residence on Harding Ave.

Gruber was arrested for public intoxication and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Sonoma County.

Gruber was taken to the Department of Corrections for booking, according to the log.
