Police Academy Recalls 9/11 at Graduation

From the Community Relations Office at Napa Valley College.

Twenty-five graduating members of Police Academy 81 at the Criminal Justice Training Center received their certificates Saturday, Sept. 10 in the college gym.

During the certification ceremony. the traditional moment of silence for fallen officers had an especially powerful impact as mention was made of the tenth year observance of the attacks in New York and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Edna Baehre-Kolovani also made reference to the importance of law enforcement in connection with 9/11 during her remarks as NVC president and supervisor. Dr. Baehre-Kolovani was president/superintendent of a two-year college system in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.

Class 81 was the extended-day program wherein Police Academy Cadets attended ten months of training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and all day Saturdays.

Graduates included James Boutain, Christopher Cain, Kevin Calkins, Eddie Caragan, Dolores Castaneda, Pete Concepcion, Juan Diaz-Garcia, William Dunbar, Bethanie Duncan, Celestino Galabasa, Fernando Gonzalez, Joshua Kertianis, Clinton Koga, Brian Ladrido, Stanley Lewis, Jonatha Ma, Nicholas Mack, Daniel Manietta, William McCall, Daniela Melton, Thomas Nierhake, Joaquin Perez-Campbell, Guillermo Rocha, Steven Saechao and Amy Thurau. Class president was Thomas Nierhake. Class Lieutenant was Joaquin Perez-Campbell.

For those interested in applying to the NVC Police Academy class, the next testing date for admission is October 8.

The next full-time class will begin January 7, 2012.

The next extended class will begin September 15, 2012. Early applicaton is advised. The testing costs $20.
