POLICE: 3 Held on Alleged Burglary, Conspiracy at Napa Outlets Stores

Napa Police take three Sacramento men into custody.

Three Sacramento men were arrested Sunday on suspicion of conspiracy to steal items from the Napa Premium Outlets stores.

According to the Napa Police log, William Cecil Harris III, 38, Markidas Davis, 37, and Simmie Degrate Shelton, 39, were taken into custody at about 6:20 p.m. at the outlet mall at 863 Factory Stores Drive, Napa.

According to the log, officers responded to the outlet stores mall for a report of theft.

Dispatch advised two male adults had taken items from Sunglass Hut and were now southbound on foot in the complex. Store security was following the suspects.

Upon arrival, officers saw store security talking with two men, Harris and  Shelton, who matched the description given by dispatch, in front of Famous Brand Footwear.

An employee of the Sunglass Hut contacted the officers and told them she believed the two men had stolen a pair of sunglasses.

When security arrived at the business, the two males left approximately 15 seconds after the security officer arrived. He followed the men as they walked south in the complex.

Both Harris and Shelton were carrying large satchels. Both agreed to the satchels being searched.

One satchel was carried by Shelton was completely empty, the other carried by Harris had minimal personal items. Officers did not find any property from the Sunglass Hut.

A records check revealed a warrant out of Yuba County for Harris. Harris was arrested and booked into Napa County Department of Corrections on the warrant.

At approximately 5:50 p.m., an officer made a traffic stop on a red Dodge Charger for a vehicle code violation on Sierra Drive at state Highway 29.

The officer contacted the driver, Davis. An assisting officer recognized the front passenger as Shelton. After the initial contact with Davis, the officer went back to his patrol car to conduct a records check, at which time he saw Davis reaching toward the driver side floorboard.

The assisting officer had Davis exit the vehicle. At this time he saw a Calvin Klein wallet box on the driver side floorboard. The box appeared to be new and was empty. There is a Calvin Klein store at the Factory Outlets.

When asked for identification, Davis told the officer he did not have an ID. Davis was searched for identification. During this search the officers located a new, but empty, Calvin Klein wallet in his back pocket.

A further search of Davis’ vehicle resulted in officers finding items from Calvin Klein, Wilson’s Leather, the Gap and miscellaneous electronics from unknown stores.

All of the items were new and still in their original packaging. Officers contacted an employee from Calvin Klein, via telephone, who informed the officers that two wallets had been stolen.

When asked about the items, Davis stated he waited in the car while Shelton and Harris went shopping at the outlets in Napa. They returned several times to the car with merchandise from the stores.

Davis denied any knowledge of theft by Shelton or Harris. When officers asked Shelton about the merchandise, he admitted to entering several store in the outlets with Harris. He told officers he acted as a distraction while Harris stole items from the stores.

Shelton was arrested for possession of stolen property, burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. Davis was arrested for possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime and driving on a suspended license. Both were booked at the jail.

Additional charges of burglary and conspiracy were added to Harris’ booking.
