Officer Falls Chasing Suspect, Napa Police Say

Officer Thomas Keener was treated at Queen of the Valley Medical Center Sunday morning after losing his footing in the pursuit of a fleeing suspect who was arrested by another officer, according to Napa police.

A 25-year-old Napa man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of resisting an officer after running away from a patrolman who slipped and fell during the foot pursuit, according to an arrest summary from the City of Napa Police Department:

On 11/04/12 about 0117 hours, Officer Keener saw a male and female involved in a disturbance in the area of the n/w corner of Kohl’s at 1116 1st. St.

The male suspect, Joshua Lanuza (25 yrs of Napa), saw the officer and began to run. The officer pursued Lanuza on foot.

As the officer turned the n/w corner of Kohl’s, he lost his footing. Officer Keener fell to the ground. Lanuza saw the offficer fall so he stopped and got on the ground. Another officer arrived and took Lanuza into custody.

The officer that fell was treated at QVMC and released. The female was very intoxicated and not cooperative/forthcoming about the disturbance.

Lanuza was transported and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.
