Nixle, a free online service, now available in Spanish.

Several Napa County agencies are using Nixle to keep the public informed of traffic advisories, public safety emergencies, crime trends, safety tips, as well as department sponsored events.

As flood season approaches, this service will be used to advise the public of road closures, hazardous situations, and recommendations, said Napa Sheriff's Capt. Tracey Stuart.

Nixle is a free online community information service provider built exclusively to provide secure and reliable communications.

Representatives from several governmental agencies are able to provide information to members of the community, who have chosen to receive messages from us.

You choose how you want to receive your information, whether by text message over your mobile device, through e-mails, or through web access.

Text messages are short and do not contain photos. E-mail contains more information and you can click on the Nixle link of the e-mail to view any attached photos.

After you register, you can then select what type of information you want to receive and from whom.

Types are:

--Alerts (many would refer to this as an emergency type alert);

--Advisories (less urgent need-to-know information);

--Community Information (day-to-day neighborhood to community-level information).

A new feature was recently added…you can now choose to receive your messages in Spanish!!

Again, this service is completely free. Text notifications are subject to text charges, based upon subscriber’s cellular phone contract. However, you may choose not to receive text messages, and select e-mail only.

Sign up now and encourage your friends, family and co-workers to take advantage of this great opportunity.
