Napa-Area Police Agencies Host Special Olympics Fundraiser Thursday

Members of several Napa County law enforcement agencies are holding a "Tip-a-Cop" fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Northern California on Thursday.

The event will be at Napa Applebee's Restaurant, 195 Soscol Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m.

At the "Tip-a-Cop" event, uniformed officers will team with regular wait staff to wait on tables. In addition to the tips customers leave their respective servers, a donation may be made to the Special Olympics; 100 percent of all donations  will go to fund the needs of the Special Olympics.

Thursday's event is part of the fundraising efforts by local law enforcement officers in preparation for the annual law enforcement torch run and the Special Olympics of Northern California, which will be in June of this year at UC Davis.

The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type of sports for individuals with mental retardation. In California more than 14,000 persons have participated in local area and chapter wide competitions.

The programs are offered at no expense to all eligible athletes and are possible solely due to generous financial contributions and many dedicated volunteers.
